Our crew consists of three (whoops, make that
4, as of May 2002) (well, make that 3 again, as of October 2003) feline critters. We
would like to say they have adjusted well to boat life, but that would be a lie.
When we fire up the engines to leave dock, they are still a little scared of the
loud noise. If we don't keep them out of their small hiding spots and force them
outside in the fresh air and open deck, we'll have smelly kitty throw-up to
clean. We have "kitty proofed" their new
home and they love to play and sleep in the numerous nooks and crannies on the
boat. One of the things that amazed us as new live-aboards is that the majority
of people traveling the waterways on their boats have pets! We do know that our
kitties can swim, because Ralphie and Rompers have ended up falling in the
water. Luckily it was while we were at dock, and not underway.
Ralphie
(a/k/a Captain Ralphie, Orange Marmalade) is an orange tabby. Most of the time he is a very sweet and cuddly.
However, he loves to play fight and use his very sharp, long "fangs".
Ralphie is afraid of new people, but when a strange cat lurks outside, he is the
first to defend his home and family. He is a carbo addict and loves to eat
crackers and fresh baked bread.
Rygiel
(a/k/a Pepper Steak, Grey One) is gray
with tan stripes on his tummy. Most of the time he likes to be left alone
by us and the other cats, but he loves attention from strangers. But he has his moments with us
when he wants lots of love and wants to play. He hates being indoors and lets us
know it.
(In
Memory of) Rompers
(a/k/a Sir Romps-a-lot, OB1Cannoli (from Star Wars),
Lard But, Chubs-a-lot, Purr Monster, Momma's Boy) may have a face of an angel when he sleeps, but
ever since we brought him home as a 8 wk old kitten (we had Ralphie and Rygiel
for about 6 months before Rompers arrival), he was the "alpha" kitty.
Even though he was barely two months old, he bullied the other two adult cats
around, and for the most part he still does. He loves food and is now a very,
very fat
cat. 10/03: We believe Rompers is now in Kitty Heaven.
Oreo (a/k/a Oreo
Cookies, Oreo Pudding Pops, Bitey, EVIL OREO) is our newest addition as of April 2002 (he
was about 8 months old at the time). Oreo is a long-haired black and white cat with a very bushy squirrel
tail. He wandered up to Dan's work one day, abandoned, very dirty, and full of burs.
No one else wanted to take him home, so we did. He loves to play, race around, play attack the other
kitties, and give give us lots of love and snuggle with us.
