Wow Ride in Sylvester, GA
in 2006
I have been riding since I was in grade school. My parents blame the rocking horse they gave me when I was a young
girl - it was the kind with springs. I rode and rode that horse until the springs broke. They were replaced, and I went
of riding that thing again. I took hunter-jumper riding lessons and went to summer riding camps growing up, and
share-boarding (long-term lease) of a 3/4 Arabian for many years during high school and college. But I didn't have
my very own horse until after Dan and I got married in July 2000. I bought my first horse, JGS Cody ("Cody") in
June 2003 from a local farm, intending to use him for distance riding (endurance or competitive trail). He was a
beautiful 5 year old Appaloosa gelding, but we had a "conflict of personalities", so after 1-1/2 years of working at it
(sounds like a marriage leading to divorce, doesn't it), I decided to sell him. Then came Ice.
Meet Ice! Actually, his real name is Ibn Ionah. "Ibn" is arabic for "son of". "Ionah" was his mother's name. So his
name means "son of Ionah". I bought him in February 2005 from an endurance horse farm in Gainesville, TX. He was
just what I wanted! An Arabian, older (over 10), and already successful competing in Endurance. Ice is a purebred
registered Arabian (Polish and CMK bloodlines), 13 when I bought him, and had already competed in two 25-milers
and two 50-milers. Each horse has his own very unique personality and Ice is no exception. It took me a long time to
earn his trust, but now we are partners and have a bond. He is not an "in-your-pocket" horse by any means. His
mother instilled a strong sense of "stranger danger". He and I have accomplished a lot since 2005 - check it out below!
Our last competition 1-1/2 years ago. I decided she needed a break from competing and conditioning. But I'm
planning on the Blazing Saddles ride in Mississippi early 2010...

Ice is trying to hide, but
unfortunately he
underestimates his size.
He's only 14.3 hands tall,
but his length is what the
problem is!
Above: Ice can be silly
sometimes! This photo
was taken right after he
spooked. That's not
unusual, but it's funny
because the spook was
after he tripped while
walking in the pasture
towards me!
Ice after a good roll - which
is one of his favorite things
to do!
